In brief
- A week is enough to discover the rhythm and the camp.
- A month is the most common stay: it is the base of most published price lists.
- Beyond that, the permitted stay depends on your nationality; for a long stay, the DTV visa lists Muay Thai classes.
What to expect at each duration
These are common-sense guides, not promises: progress depends on session frequency, your starting fitness and the quality of coaching.
| Duration | What you aim for | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| 1 week | Discover the rhythm, the basics, the camp | Beginners, holidaymakers, a test before a long stay |
| 2 weeks | Absorb the combinations and recover between sessions | Two-week holidays |
| 1 month | Build a routine, gain fitness and technique | The most common stay, the base of most price lists |
| 3 months | Really progress, consider regular sparring | Sabbatical, remote work, preparing a first fight |
| 6 months | A real change of practice and body | Deep stays, visa to plan ahead |
| 1 year | Live at the camp’s rhythm, aim for competition | Life or career project |
Progress over 2, 4 or 8 weeks
No camp in our survey publishes guaranteed results, and we promise none. Here is what each length can reasonably aim for, provided you train regularly and rest.
2 weeks
Time to discover the camp’s rhythm, learn the guard, footwork and basic strikes, and find out whether you like Muay Thai enough to come back.
4 weeks
Time to build a routine: the basic moves get cleaner, your breathing keeps up better, and the trainer can start correcting details.
8 weeks
Time to work on combinations, discover the clinch and, if the trainer sees fit, supervised sparring. Consistency then matters more than intensity.
Fatigue and the second week
This is common-sense advice, with no figures. The first week often runs on enthusiasm; it is afterwards, as fatigue builds up, that the risk of injury rises.
- Start with one session a day, and move to two only if your body keeps up.
- Keep the weekly rest day: Sinbi, Santai and Diamond publish a Monday-to-Saturday schedule.
- If a pain does not go away from one day to the next, lighten the session or skip it, and tell the trainer.
- Sleep, eat and drink regularly; the heat weighs on recovery.
- Do not pay for a long plan before the end of the first week: by then you will know whether the rhythm suits you.

Camps for a short stay
For a week or two, look for a camp that sells a day, a week or a session card and is easy to reach.
- Diamond (Koh Phangan): 1-day trial, 1 week, a 10-session card usable at will.
- Santai (Chiang Mai): 1 day, 1, 2 or 3 weeks.
- Khongsittha (Bangkok): stays of 3, 7, 10 and 14 nights with lodging.
- Fairtex (Pattaya): per session, a 10-book, or a one-week plan with lodging.
- Honour (Krabi) and Sinbi (Phuket): per session.
Camps for a long stay
- Santai (Chiang Mai): 3, 6 and 12 months published, in a calm setting.
- Fairtex (Pattaya): the monthly rate drops from 3 then 6 months; hotel on site.
- Tiger and Bangtao (Phuket): 3-month plans published; campuses with several disciplines.
- Khongsittha (Bangkok): 30-night stay with lodging; a 10,000 ฿ deposit is required.
Staying long: the visa question
Without a visa, the length of stay depends on your nationality. For French nationals, the French foreign ministry stated a visa-free stay of up to 60 days (page updated 7 April 2026, checked 10 October 2026), and announced that the Thai authorities planned to cut it to 30 days. For other nationalities, check your own government’s advice (the FCDO for UK nationals) before buying a multi-month plan.
Entry and stay (in French)
UK travel advice
To stay longer, the DTV visa lists Muay Thai classes among the qualifying activities, with a participation confirmation from the camp.
Muay Thai classes are among the activities listed by the Thai foreign ministry for the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV). Ask the camp for the participation confirmation before you apply.
- Visa fee
- ฿10,000
- Validity, multiple entries
- 5 years
- Per entry, then extension
- 180 + 180 days
Proof of at least 500,000 ฿ in funds is required. Beyond the 180 days extended by 180, you must leave the country and re-enter on the same visa while it remains valid.

Frequently asked questions
Is a week enough to start?
Yes, to discover the rhythm and the camp. Many price lists offer the week: Diamond 2,000 ฿, Santai 3,500 ฿, Tiger 4,400 ฿, Bangtao 5,000 ฿ (All Access).
What does a month cost?
From 7,000 ฿ (Diamond) to 16,500 ฿ (Fairtex, Bangtao All Access) among published rates. See the prices page.
Which camp for a year?
Santai is the only one to publish a 12-month rate (100,000 ฿). For the others, ask for a long-stay rate.
Do I need a visa to stay over a month?
It depends on your nationality. For French nationals, the French foreign ministry stated 60 days visa-free (page of 7 April 2026, checked 10 October 2026), with a cut to 30 days announced: check before leaving. For a long stay, the DTV visa (10,000 ฿, valid 5 years) lists Muay Thai classes.
How do I avoid getting injured in the second week?
Start with one session a day, keep the rest day, ease off as soon as a pain persists and tell the trainer. This is common sense, not a published rule.
